It's the first day of February and that means it is Black History Month. As you prepare to dive into books about Black History, be mindful of your book selections that can cause trauma for children, especially with preschoolers who are not able to fully understand the complexities of what transpired. We all know literacy is an important part of a child's development, so it's important that they have access to books. Access should also include books that allow children to see positive representations of children who look like them. Little black girls can relate to this books because they see someone who looks like them, same hair texture, and even hairstyles that they have probably had before.
